The St. Joseph Adit is one of the many mine workings in an important part of the Jihlava gold-bearing district - the Kocourské vein zone.
The adit is drawn on one of the oldest preserved maps of the Jihlava district from 1730. It is therefore possible that the mining companies working here in the 18th century continued the old mining work, perhaps already from the pre-Hussite era (the most famous period of mining, with a large scale of mining work, was in the 14th century). It is cited in the "List of mountains and guilds in the district of the Royal Mining Office in Jílové" in the second half of the 18th century (about 1762) in the Cesnau (Chesnau) Highlands, as the area was called. It is certain that the original adit later grew into a mining operation, the exact extent and history of which are not known.
